The Opportunity
India needs thousands more dialysis professionals. Where will they come from?

India has approximately 10 million people with end-stage kidney disease — and the population on dialysis is growing rapidly as the burden of diabetes and hypertension matures. Every new dialysis centre that opens needs trained technicians, trained nurses, and trained biomedical engineers to staff it.
The workforce does not exist in sufficient numbers. Most general nursing and biomedical programmes do not include specialised dialysis training. Most dialysis technicians in India learn on the job — with all the variability that brings. The country needs a structured pipeline of professionally credentialed dialysis workers, and that pipeline does not build itself.
In 2011, three years after AKC began operations, this gap had become impossible to ignore. Centres were being opened faster than they could be staffed with people trained to the standards AKC was insisting on. Rather than wait, AKC built the institution that the country needed.
For a young person willing to do the work, a dialysis technology qualification is one of the most stable, deployable, and respectable healthcare careers available in India today — with demand growing every year and employers actively looking for credentialed graduates.
The Institute
Built by clinicians. For the dialysis floor.
The Apex School of Dialysis Technology was founded in 2011 under the Apex Academia umbrella — AKC’s institutional framework for clinical education. Unlike generic vocational training programmes, the School was designed and continues to be run by practising nephrologists, senior dialysis nurses, and biomedical engineers who manage AKC’s centres every day. The curriculum reflects what dialysis actually requires.

Founded 2011 · Apex Academia
Apex School of Dialysis Technology
A structured, accredited curriculum in dialysis technology and dialysis nursing, integrating classroom instruction with extensive hands-on training at active AKC centres. Two parallel learning tracks — dialysis technician and dialysis nursing specialisation — both leading to formal credentials accepted across the healthcare industry.
Faculty includes AKC’s senior nephrologists, in-charge nurses, biomedical engineers, and infection control specialists. Students learn what they will actually do at work — on the same equipment, in the same protocols, with the same quality standards they will encounter on their first day as a credentialed professional.

The Affiliations
Credentials that employers recognise.
The qualifications awarded by the Apex School of Dialysis Technology are recognised through two formal academic and vocational affiliations — ensuring that graduates leave with credentials that are accepted, transferable, and stand up to scrutiny wherever they choose to work.
Academic Affiliation
Tata Institute of Social Sciences
A deemed university and institution of national eminence · Mumbai
TISS is among India’s most respected institutions of social sciences and allied disciplines — a deemed university with national reach. The School of Dialysis Technology’s affiliation with TISS provides academic standing, structured curriculum oversight, and a formal degree-aligned credential for graduates pursuing the academic pathway.

Vocational Affiliation
Maharashtra State Board
State Board of Skill, Vocational Education & Training, Government of Maharashtra
MSBSVET is the official state vocational training authority for Maharashtra — the government body that recognises and accredits skill-based vocational programmes. The affiliation with MSBSVET ensures the School’s qualifications are formally recognised for employment in both public and private sector healthcare, with the credibility of state-level vocational accreditation.

The Programme
Two tracks. One discipline.
The Apex School trains across two parallel professional tracks — the dialysis technician who runs the machine and works with the patient at the chair, and the dialysis nurse who provides clinical leadership on the floor. Each track has its own curriculum, qualification, and career arc — though students share core foundational training in nephrology, dialysis principles, and patient care.

Continuing Medical Education
Dialysis SimplifiedTraining doesn’t stop at graduation. It travels with the work.
Dialysis Simplified is AKC’s flagship continuing-education programme for practising dialysis technicians and nurses — conducted periodically in Mumbai, Bhopal, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, and other cities where the AKC network operates. Designed for working professionals who need to stay current as protocols evolve, equipment changes, and clinical evidence updates.

Dialysis Simplified
A periodic CME programme conducted by AKC for the thousands of dialysis technicians and nurses working across the network and at partner facilities. Each Dialysis Simplified event combines structured lectures, hands-on demonstrations, case discussions, and direct engagement with government officials who oversee India’s public dialysis programmes.
The format is deliberate: clinical authority meets policy authority meets the people doing the daily work. Technicians and nurses leave with updated protocols, current evidence, and a direct line to the policy framework their centres operate within.
Where it Happens
Cities across the AKC network.
Sessions are hosted in cities where AKC operates dialysis centres — bringing the CME to the workforce, rather than expecting the workforce to travel to a single venue. New cities are added as the network expands.
Who Teaches
Faculty drawn from three disciplines.
i
Nephrologists
AKC's clinical leadership — on adequacy, anaemia, vascular access, complications.
ii
Dialysis Technology Teachers
Senior faculty from the Apex School of Dialysis Technology and partner institutions.
iii
Industry Trainers
Manufacturer-specific trainers — on dialysis machines, RO water plant operation, equipment safety.
The Distinctive Feature
Government engagement — built into the format.
A defining feature of Dialysis Simplified is active interaction with government officials who oversee India’s dialysis Public-Private Partnership programmes — state health authorities, municipal officials, programme administrators. They share guidelines, real-world expectations, lessons from the field, and direct suggestions to the technicians and nurses who run the country’s PPP dialysis centres. The conversation flows both ways: officials hear from the workforce too.
The Career Outcome
What happens after graduation.
A graduate of the Apex School of Dialysis Technology does not leave the institute looking for a job. They leave with a credential, a network, and a career arc that has been mapped out by the same institution that employs more than 1,850 people across the country. The path is structured, well-trodden, and visible from day one.
The Graduate Career Arc
From classroom to clinical floor — in five stages.
i
Foundation Year
Classroom instruction in nephrology, dialysis principles, water treatment, infection control. Theory and supervised practical sessions.
ii
Clinical Practicum
Extensive hands-on training at AKC's 250 centres — the largest clinical practicum network in Indian dialysis education.
iii
Certification & Credentialing
Examination, BLS certification, and the issue of TISS MSBSVET-affiliated qualifications recognised across the industry.
iv
Placement Pathway
Direct placement support into AKC's network, hospital partners, government PPP centres, and other dialysis providers across India.
v
Career Progression
Senior technician, in-charge roles, training faculty, biomedical specialisation, supervisory and regional positions over time.
A substantial proportion of AKC’s 750+ technicians and nurses are graduates of the Apex School. Many graduates also work at hospitals, government dialysis centres, and dialysis providers across India and abroad — the credential travels.
